From Willpower to Dil-Power – Online Actio-based Group Workshop
August 31, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm IST

Thank God it’s Friday! Monday blues! How did these terms come about? What makes people dislike their routines through the weekdays so much? Is it that the work is boring, tedious or overwhelming?
We also hear these adages from our elders – “Life is a compromise!” or “Childhood is golden, adult life is full of responsibility (and therefore sad)” or “Ab kya karein? (What to do (in reference to life events?).” Is it any wonder that many of us drift through life with an underlying sense of powerlessness and hopelessness?
Do you say Yes first and then feel burdened?
Do you believe that you don’t have a choice?
Autonomy (being independent and self-directed) and agency (making choices) are universal human needs. When these needs are not met, we rely on the human “superpower” to get by – WILLPOWER!
Willpower helps us achieve our tasks and goals. And it relies on self-control and determination, as well as motivation. Willpower though is a finite resource. When it runs out, we expereince “ego depletion” – a state where impaired self-control (after long use) negatively impacts task performance, pretty much like a tired muscle.
But where willpower combines with Dil- Power – we hit the jackpot!
Dil power or the power of love is rooted in self-compassion, social support, and intrinsic motivation. It is gentle and nurturing. It is no less effective in achieving goals while allowing goalposts to shift.
These forces are not necessarily opposing. Willpower, when fueled by dil-power, enables sustained growth and regeneration. And dil-power transforms to willpower ever so often, but with clarity and intention.
What will be explored in this workshop?
In this workshop, we will explore what it would look like to shift from extrinsic to intrinsic motivation, temper self-control with self-compassion, allow space for detours, and nurture support and connection.
We will use action-based methods from psychodrama, nonviolent communication practices, and psychospiritual activities to:
- observe the impact of these two driving forces in your life,
- explore your leaning towards either,
- explore how self-compassion strengthens willpower, and
- develop personal strategies to harness both forces.
Who is this workshop for?
In my opinion, anybody. We all swing from willpower to dil-power and back.
However, if you resonate with the role of the tired worker or homemaker or the one who says Yes and then has second thoughts or find yourself getting stressed during tasks and drained after they’re done, this workshop is especially for you.
