Excessive sugar consumption can lead to a range of negative health consequences, including weight gain, increased risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease, and potential links to depression, fatty liver disease, and even cognitive decline. Added refined sugars, in particular, are a major concern as they contribute to these issues without providing significant nutritional value.

Table sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, and other forms of processed sugars provide fructose, which in excess has detrimental effects on:

  • brain (neurostimulant, addictive behaviour),
  • liver (fatty liver, inflammation, uric acid generation),
  • kidney (renal vasoconstriction, inflammation),
  • vasculature (inflammation, endothelial dysfunction), and
  • adipocyte (oxidative stress, inflammation).

We know this. But that doesn’t make it easy to stop! It’s too easily available, part of all celebrations, hidden in processed foods we love … it’s so hard to avoid!

Yes, we acknowledge the difficulty of #NoSugar, too. That’s why it’s helpful to do difficult things through fun group challenges. 🙂
