Listening from the Heart

A journalist once asked Mother Teresa, “When you pray, what do you say to God?”

She replied, “I don’t say anything. I listen.”

The journalist pressed on: “Then what does God say to you?”

She smiled and said, “He doesn’t say anything either. He listens.”

Listening creates a holy silence. When you listen generously to people, they can hear the truth in themselves, often for the first time. And in the silence of listening, you can know yourself in everyone. Eventually, you may be able to hear, in everyone and beyond everyone, the unseen singing softly to itself and to you.

Rachel Naomi Remen, MD

But listening is easier said than done. It is simpler to advise, solve, question, sympathise or even dismiss. Why? Because that’s what we have learned from observation and the quality of listening we have experienced. Very few of us have seen models of true listening.

If you want to create an authentic connection, listening is a reliable and powerful skill to master. Listening creates a holy space where the speaker can hear her inner voice, connect to her needs, and find answers that serve her.

If you want to create such an experience for others , join the action-based interactive workshop. We will use methods drawn from psychodrama and nonviolent communication to:

  • practice PRESENCE
  • learn what not to do to be a good listener
  • understand your own unmet needs when you cannot listen
  • reflect on your patterns and responses

When: 21 Feb, Saturday, 7-8.30 PM IST

Fee: Giftism (What is giftism? You choose a self-determined fee that feels right to you, that feels clean, fair, and honest, and that respects your financial means. If that amount is zero, we welcome and trust that choice as well. We offer the workshop as a gift, trusting the generosity of participants to support us in developing and sustaining in-depth learning journeys like this one.)

Included in Karwaan package.

  • Join 2 minutes early. Entry will close after 7.05 pm.
